SAVANNAH OUTEN NYC SPECIAL
Part I

When I was given the opportunity to interview Savannah Outen in New York City on her The Fully Clothed Tour with Nat & Alex Wolfe, I was very excited, but wasn't sure what to expect.  I'd written a "Steal Their Style!" column on Savannah before, and I have several of her photos on deck to fill a few more articles -- so I knew that she would give me great material.  But on the flip side of the same token, she was on her first tour and fairly new to the world of being a pop princess, so would she be willing to do an interview so narrowly-aimed as to her fashion, and not her music?

Fortunately for me, Savannah was more than open in sharing her fashion philosophies, tips, and even which celebs she'd give a make-over -- plus she was as nice as can be, even as she was bouncing around from interviewing to signing autographs to hosting a Meet & Greet... all after delivering a truly killer performance.  I got so much great material from Savannah that I decided to break up her interview into three separate articles... SO much thanks to Savannah, Keith, Lisa, and of course Tommy for the fun and STYLE-ish afternoon!

pictureSavannah shone onstage at the Blender Theatre in Gramercy, NYC, and she explained off the bat that glamour was the intended effect.

The first question I asked her was to describe her outfit for all the fans who had to miss the day's performance, and she jumped back to not only describe, but to illustrate, her ensemble.

"I'm wearing an Express dress," she said, "and it has glitter on the neck and at the bottom."

Though her boots were a matte black, Savannah's jewelry continued the theme of glitz with silver-and-glass bracelets, dangling earrings, and a long necklace with a rhinestone peace sign and heart that she'd gotten that day from a very special fan who had flown in all the way from London to see the show.  She also sported her lucky peace sign ring.

"When it comes to performing onstage, [my style] is definitely more sparkles, little details -- like the bracelet -- to really catch the light."  She cited Hollywood Records' Aly & AJ as definite sources of inspiration for her stage style, reminiscing that they had shirts of all-sequins that glittered whenever they moved when she saw them in concert.

pictureJust like in her recent photos for Supermodels Unlimited Magazine, Savannah's hair at Blender was a mountain of long blonde curls -- but if you're out on the street hoping for a Savannah spotting, set your sights on straight hair!

"My hair is pin straight," she lamented.  "I don't know how Lisa gets my curls to stay... whenever I try, they always fall out as soon as I walk outside, like I'll have curls and take one step and my hair is all straight again!"

She did let me in on one clue to how her hair gets its curl -- hours of prep work!

"Well, [to get ready] for stage, we start about two hours before the show, and we try to really relax and take our time with it... but then we get the call for twenty minutes and we say, 'Oh no, really?' because my hair just takes forever.  The make-up for stage only takes about twenty, thirty minutes, though."

It's that time that makes getting primped to sing onstage different than getting ready for everyday for Savannah.  Besides the clothing differences -- when she's just going to school or out with her friends, Savannah would rather wear a peace sign tee-shirt and jeans than a tunic full of rhinestones! -- Savannah says that she doesn't wear much makeup, just some mascara.
