It all starts on a family vacation and a former CIA agent at the right place at the right time… or wrong time. What follows is methodically placed thriller in which Jack Ryan must find the villains before they find him. Unlike typical action/suspense films is that Jack Ryan’s strength is his mind and putting together the pieces of and elaborate puzzle.

The performances by Harrison Ford and James Earl Jones are definitely the highlight of the film in addition to some gorgeous cinematography on the East Coast (primarily Maryland).

While this feature bares an R rating, it seems as if things might be different in 2008. It pushes the edges, but the consequences of violence aren’t glossed over giving it much more realism and making it a stronger story.
