Space Buddies is the latest in talking dog movies to be released by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment; available now on DVD and Blu-ray Hi-Def.

Air Bud’s five puppies, Rosebud, Buddha, Budderball, B-Dawg, and Mudbud, have found new homes, but still like to get into trouble together. This time, they decide to trail their school-age owners on a class field trip to watch a space craft take off. Little did they know that their puppy curiosity would wind up putting them on board, just in time for the craft to take off on a trip to the moon. A galactic adventure ensues when the spacecraft runs out of gas and they have to refuel at a Russian space station that houses a Russian dogonaut named Spudnik (voice by Jason Earles). Spudnik joins the puppies on the space craft in order to get home to his boy Sasha. With the help of a ferret named Gravity at mission control, the dogs return safely to earth much to the delight of the “world watching.”

There are only a few extras in the bonus features section. There are some cute outtakes, and a music video with Disney Channel’s Alyson Stoner singing Dancing In The Moonlight. Plus a Disneypedia: The Buddies’ Guide To Space Travel, and Buddy Facts.

Young children will enjoy this movie mostly because it deals with outer space, which is fascinating. And it has talking golden retriever puppies, which plays up the cute factor. It is a bit of a painful movie for a parent to sit though due to the cheesiness of some of the storyline. Air Bud was a huge success, and he didn’t talk! Disney would have been better off sticking with that formula.
