There’s exciting news about the latest full-length animated film being released from the Disney vault. Just in time for her 50th Anniversary, Sleeping Beauty is being awakened as the first-ever Disney Classic Animated feature to be in high definition. Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition is debuting on a 2-Disc Blu-ray Hi-Def and on a 2-Disc DVD.
Also new to this release, Disney launches the Disney BD-Live Network. It provides the chance for viewers to use various communication platforms – chat, video messages, online interactivity, communal gaming, and more within their disc.
And if that’s not enough, another industry first is being marked by the release of Sleeping Beauty. Included in the Blu-ray package is a bonus standard definition DVD of the classic animated film. This allows collectors to own this movie on standard def DVD while they are preparing to upgrade to Hi-def and Blu-Ray.
Sleeping Beauty, the final fairytale to be produced by Walt Disney himself, is an enchanting tale of Princess Aurora. Betrothed to Prince Phillip as an infant, Aurora receives the gift of song and beauty from the good fairies Flora and Fauna at the celebration of her birth. Enraged that she was not invited to the party, the evil fairy Maleficent placed a curse on the princess saying that on her 15th birthday Aurora would prick her finger on a spinning wheel, and fall down dead. Fearing his daughter’s life, the King has the good fairies Merryweather and Fauna take Aurora deep into the woods and raise her in secret. Does Maleficent’s curse come true? Does Prince Philip get to marry his princess? Whether it’s watching a classic that you love over again, or introducing a new little fan to the movie it is definitely a Disney classic worth owning.
