Ratatouille

Release Date: November 6, 2007
Length: 111 minutes
Rating: 3 out of 4 stars

New to Disney DVD and Blu-Ray, it’s Pixar’s most recent full-length animated feature Ratatouille available in stores today. This movie is about an endearing rat named Remy who isn’t satisfied with the normal garbage eating existence of his fellow family members. Instead he has a more refined pallet and a knack for gourmet cooking. Pair him up with a klutzy self-conscious human named Linguini, trying to fit in at a five star Paris restaurant and you have the makings of a touching, yet light-hearted film. Also the animation in this film is outstanding. Pixar continues to top themselves film after film in what they are able to accomplish.

The movie itself is very enjoyable, but the bonus features on the DVD are a bit lacking. There is an all-new animated short featuring Remy and his brother Emile in Your Friend The Rat. This short is good because it is educational, yet funny, and is geared towards an older audience. You will actually learn some new facts about rats. Also the short “Lifted” that appeared before Ratatouille in the theaters is in the bonus features section. However that is the last of the interesting stuff. There are a few deleted scenes, and a little documentary called Food & Film which tended to drag quite a bit and not have much of a point.

Overall this 111 minute movie is four stars, but the DVD Extras are only worth three.
