Oliver & Company, the 20th Anniversary Edition is available now by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment on DVD. Follow Oliver a feisty young kitten on his adventure with his street friends—dogs Dodger, Tito, Rita, and the rest of the gang to rescue his owner Jenny from a kidnapping. Based on the novel Oliver Twist this movie is endearing and timeless.

Not only is the storyline engaging, but there are six memorable musical numbers performed by music greats, Bette Midler, Billy Joel, and Huey Lewis including Why Should I Worry, and Streets of Gold. Casting these music talents twenty years ago was a brilliant move by Disney, because these names are so timeless, that they are still great today. As well as singing songs for the movie, Billy Joel is also the voice of Dodger, and Bette Midler is the voice of Georgette. And we can’t forget to mention that the voice of Oliver is Joey Lawrence, most recently known for his season on Dancing With The Stars. If the story doesn’t engage parents, the music definitely will.

And if the movie itself isn’t enough, the bonus features on this DVD are great! An all-new Oliver’s Big City Challenge game is a great game for the whole family to play together. There’s also a great Backstage Disney showing the making of the movie, featuring original clips of Billy Joel and other actors recording in the studio. It also talks about the beginning use of computers to help animate scenes.

There are also two classic animated shorts that are definitely worth watching. Lend A Paw featuring Mickey’s old pal Pluto even won and Academy award! The other short Puss Café also features Pluto and his futile attempt to keep some stray cats at bay.

This movie is a great addition to any family’s movie library. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the story as well as the musical numbers and the extras.
