The Cheetah Girls - One World Extended Music Edition Blu-ray

Release Date: December 16, 2008
Length: 88 minutes
T2 Rating: 3 out of 4 stars

The Cheetah Girls are back with their third movie, One World available on Blu-ray. While sequels rarely match the quality of the original film, One World continues to raise the bar such as Cheetah Girls 2 did from the original 2002 movie that started it all. For the first time Adrienne, Kiely and Sabrina are able to display their talents without being hampered by the overacting of Raven Symone.

Just like the previous installments, the girls find themselves at a make or break time in their career. Changing gears from the typical quest for the next big single Aqua, Chanel and Dorinda find themselves chasing the opportunity to become film stars. The trio also find themselves in the middle of new relationships (as well as the other leads).

Previous releases such as Camp Rock, High School Musical 2 and Minutemen offered additional scenes, but none did a whole lot to actually add to the film. At the halfway point of One World you’ll find a new scene to the song Feels Like Love. It’s a number that adds a significant amount of value to the story and will leave you scratching your head wondering why it was cut from the original TV premiere. You’ll also love seeing the Cheetah’s in some more stylish fashions… including Aqua’s adorable dress!

From a production standpoint, the film suffers from some really bad sync issues during the music sequences and at times the shot selection feels amateur compared to what Kenny Ortega did with Cheetah Girls 2.

This Blu-ray offers some great features including a 1.78:1 aspect ratio that yields the full frame opposed to the 1:33:1 found on the DVD. Of course one thing you can’t miss in Hi-Def is that Jonas Brothers poster in the background as they’re walking through the market. Both releases include a Blooper Real, a karaoke Rock-Along Mode and a pop-up video version of the movie called Cheetah Spots. Also, included are the music videos for One World, Cheetah Love and Dance Me If You Can (on the Blu-ray these are in standard definition). And of course there's access to the Disney BD-Live Network.

Cheetah Girls One World capitalizes on injecting a strong soundtrack against a colorful tapestry filled with stunning architecture. Not by any means flawless from start to finish, but fulfills its role in the tween/family friendly genre.
