Put together some insanely cute dogs, the live acting of Piper Perabo and Jamie Lee Curtis and the voices of Drew Barrymore, George Gomez, Andy Garcia, Cheech Marin, and Paul Rodriguez and what do you get? Beverly Hills Chihuahua! It’s being released today by Walt Disney Pictures today on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def.
Because this movie contains talking dogs, it’s easy to on a first pass assume that it’s going to be corny or even dumb. But in reality, the dogs do a great job, and the storyline is engaging enough that you quickly forget that the dogs’ mouths are moving and instead get engrossed in the adventure of Chloe, a high-class chihuahua living a very pampered life in Beverly Hills who gets lost in Mexico when her owner’s niece takes here there on vacation. Her eyes get opened to the real world around her very quickly between professional dog fighting, and a rat and iguana con artist duo. A former police dog, a German Shepherd named Delgado befriends little Chloe and tries to help her get back home to Beverly Hills and her owner. But in the end, it’s the Beverly Hills gardener’s Chihuahua, Manuel, who rescues both Chloe and Delgado and saves the day.
This release comes with a lot of bonus features.
On DVD
• Legend of the Chihuahua – an all-new animated short
• Blooper Scooper

Beverly Hills Chihuahua on Blu-ray Hi-Def contains all of the DVD bonus features, plus the following BD exclusives:
• Pet Pals: The Voices Behind the Dogs
• Hitting the Bark: On Set with the Dogs of Beverly Hills Chihuahua
• Even More Canine Capers in Additional Deleted Scenes

Hitting the Bark: On Set with the Dogs of Beverly Hills Chihuahua is a really interesting feature. It lets you get a behind-the-scenes look at all of the training and coaching involved in getting a large number of dogs to do behaviors that allow them to “act” in the movie. It will give you a new appreciation for the movie as a whole. The other features are worth watching as well.
Overall this movie is a great family feature. Kids will love the talking dogs, and the storyline has enough depth and one-liners to keep parents entertained as well.
