101 Dalmations is out of the Disney vault again. Even if you have seen this movie a hundred times, this new two disc set is more than worth its value because of all of the interesting bonus features that are included. You will find yourself saying over and over again “I didn’t know that!”

Most everyone knows of the story of how Cruella De Vil dognaps Pongo and Perdita’s puppies in order to make a fur coat out of them, and the comical chase that ensues. But what most people don’t know is all of the work that went into the making of the movie. There is a “making of” documentary. It talks about how 101 Dalmations was the first feature length animated film to use Xerox animation. It also shows how models cars, used in conjunction with the Xerox animation made the cars come to life in the movie, especially Cruella’s car.

There is also a short piece on the making of Cruella De Vil. Her sole creator was animator legend Marc Davis. 101 Dalmations ended up being his final animated movie that he ever worked on for Disney.

One other segment worth mentioning from the extras is a charming dramatization of correspondence between Walt Disney and the author of the book One Hundred and One Dalmations, Dodie Smith. It was from her book that the movie was made.

There are other bonus features as well; games, music, to name a few. This is definitely a DVD that the whole family will be able to enjoy together.
