Lalaine - March 2, 2004
Here are some of the highlights from the Interview.
Tommy: Last July you released your debut CD, Inside Story. Are you happy
with how that turned out?
Lalaine: Yes. Ya know I mean it was my first album and the very first song we did
was You Wish. And the reason why the album started was because of that
song, and I did it because of the movie. After that we were like why don’t
we put a whole album together, and we did and I co-wrote a bunch of the
songs on that. I’d have to say it was like, I was happy with it – especially
at the time because it was my first album and I thought it was the greatest
thing. But the stuff I’m working on now it’s just so much better, and
I know you get better - that’s the whole point of this. Is your supposed
to get better through each one. And, it’s just with the people I’m working
with now, I just feel like there’s so much more to it. Because on that
album, I worked with the same producer on all the songs. So it’s not that
I didn’t know what I was doing but I kinda didn’t at the same time. So
I guess you could say it was an experimental stage for me. I wouldn’t
call it my practice Cd, it’s just what kicked me off – it’s what started
me.
Tommy: So what kind of music are you listening to these days?
Lalaine: Oh, I love all sorts of music. I love singers like Beyonce - I love Justin
Timberlake of course. I think he’s so talented. I love Outkast. My one
always favorite singer would probably be Whitney Houston. Like old Whitney,
not new Whitney. But my favorite singer of all time would be probably
Elvis Presley. That’s like one of my idols in music. Oh and I love Maroon
5. Love them, oh my God – they’re so good, I’m sorry. Every single song
on their album is so good. I’m sorry, you just don’t get tired of. Another
singer I look of that way is Fefe Dobson. I love her, I think she’s amazing
and the fact that her songs I can really relate to, which I love. On her
album her songs have such variety to them, they don’t all sound the same.
You have the hardcore like rock songs, her angry songs, and then these
sweet songs. So it’s like, you just don’t get sick of that album.
Tommy: You’ve been acting for quite awhile now…
Lalaine: Yeah, my acting came from singing. It was, Les Mis actually started it.
Because you know on Broadway you’re doing your singing but you also have
to act at the same time. After Les Mis when I got back to L.A. that’s
when I started doing auditions and stuff. And then Annie came along, and
I did Annie.
Tommy: So it’s kinda like you started singing and your acting career evolved
out of that, and now you’re back singing again.
Lalaine: Yeah, that’s actually exactly how it was. I started with singing and singing
was my first actual passion and then acting came from it and I fell in
love with acting too. And since my acting kicked off with Lizzie McGuire
and ya know I became pretty known for it. I kinda want my singing, I want
to get back into my music. - cause I’ve always had my thing for music.
Not that I don’t love acting as much, but since I’ve kinda gotten my goals
for acting I’m kinda set, or started. I kinda want to get my music started
also, and my songwriting.
