ZOEGirl - November 2002
Here are some of the highlights from the Interview.
Tommy: How would you describe ZOEgirl to the audience of Jump5 fans?
ZOEGirl: Well I would say our music is very pop oriented, with a little bit
of R&B, dance beats, things like that, getting a little towards
more having a rock edge but kind of all that stuff mixed together. So
if you came to a show you would see that we have choreography and back
up dancers and things like that. We met Jump5 when they were first coming
to be, and we didn’t even know they knew who we were. We befriended
them and so they are good friends of ours and we actually practice our
dances at one of their houses.
Tommy: You just released a new single called Plain, what is the inspiration
for that song?
ZOEGirl: Plain is our song dealing in response to issues with self-esteem.
Being a band for three years we’ve gotten a lot of feedback and
have worked with some youths and one of the biggest issues that we see
is problems with self esteem, and girls and guys that just really don’t
really think very highly of themselves and just have some problems so
we just wanted to have that message to them, that says God made you
beautiful, and there is only one of you. Your one of a kind, there is
nothing about you that’s plain and to hope they take confidence
in themselves and realize that they are worth something and realize
that is something we all go through. I think everybody feels plain or
not so special at times but really that’s not true.
Tommy: Since you heavily focus on a positive message, isn’t it amazing
how you can record a CD and you never know who’s going to hear
a certain song they need to hear at a certain time? Are they’re
any stories you could share that have just blown you away illustrating
the power of your music and your message?
ZOEGIRL: We get all kinds of letters, in fact we just got a letter last night
actually that was really sweet. It was from a girl who was telling us
a little bit about herself and how she has a sister who is autistic
and she’s been looking for a way to connect with her sister because
of her being autistic and she was telling us how our music has been
that bridge because whenever she plays it her sister comes running into
the room and knows its ZOEgirl. It’s really been a connecting
thing in the relationship.
