Ryne Sanborn - December 2, 2007
Tommy:
Ryne how ya doin?
Ryne:
Good, how are you?
Tommy:
Good! Now the DVD release for High School Musical 2 is
just around the corner and last week you were at the DVD
launch event with the rest of the cast. How'd that go?
Ryne:
Awesome! It was so much fun. There were so many
great fans there and we got to do a bunch of really awesome
interviews and meet a while bunch of cool people. So it
was a ball.
Tommy:
Now at that they actually had a screening for the movie.
Did you actually get to see that or were you like doing
interviews the whole time you were there?
Ryne:
Yeah, well we got to come out and say hi to everybody
and we got to say a few things but we had to leave right
after so we so we didn't actually get to sit down and
watch it.
Tommy:
That's the life of a movie star right?
Ryne:
Yeah.. yeah, haha.
Tommy:
After it there was an afterparty. Were there any big names
there?
Ryne:
There was some of the kids from the Disney Channel
like the kids that plays Rico on Hannah Montana and Madison
the little girl from Game Plan so... mostly it was just
Disney fans that are fans of the movie were there. But
of course Kenny (Ortega) and all the big Disney executives
were there and stuff. So it was fun.
Tommy:
Cool. Now as far as the movie - one memorable scene featuring
your character Jason Cross is the song Work This Out.
What was it like to shoot that segment?
Ryne:
Awesome! That was easily one of my favorite dance
numbers just cause it was so like different from all the
other ones. You know the choreography of the dance was
a lot more - it was just a lot more, all the other dances
seemed to be more pop culture kinda stuff and that one
was more funky and I like that because we were doing it
in a kitchen and we got to play with a bunch of random
things and bang on pots and stuff. That was one my favorite
dances, just cause of that.
Tommy:
What's it been like to be part of this thing called High
School Musical?
Ryne:
A dream come true! A fantasy life basically,
I can't even, I could've never imagined a couple of years
ago that I'd be where I'm at right now. It's like I figured
it be another one of those Disney Channel Originals that,
you saw every here and there and never thought anything
of it. But, it's amazing to see that it's turned into
such a phenomena and we've got people begging us for a
third one, so it's ridiculous.
Tommy:
And would you be interested in doing a third?
Ryne:
Absolutely, would totally love to.
Tommy:
Now one thing unique about you in that cast is that you're
from Utah.
Ryne:
Mmhmm.
Tommy:
Has that been a good thing or a bad thing to be close
to the state where you're shooting?
Ryne:
I think that it was a kind of a little bit of
both maybe. Ya know cause there's definitely a huge advantage
of being out in LA when you're trying to pursue and acting
career, but at the same time ya know living out here and
having the movie be shot out here I felt like I had an
advantage to all the other cast members cause it's kinda
like my home state. Plus, I love that everyone is from
LA and I get to rep Salt Lake City. The movie is shot
in Salt Lake City and I love being from here, so.
Tommy:
And of course with Utah, you're into a lot of the winter
sports like Snowboarding and Hockey.
Ryne:
Absolutely!
Tommy:
Which one of those is your favorite?
Hockey
always is my favorites sport, but I've kinda stopped playing
it over the last couple of years so Snowboarding is definitely
taking its place right now.
Tommy:
Is that having a lot to do with your career or other things?
Ryne:
Well, ya know I haven't... it's kind of still
a transitional phase. It's ya know... I'm trying to move
out to LA but I'm kinda staying here cause I'm doing school
out here. But at the same time Snowboarding season and
all this other stuff is about to start up so I'm kinda
thinking I'm gonna hang out here for just a little while
before I go out to LA.
Tommy:
Now I'm always looking for some new facts and a fun thing
would be for you to give us a run down if you were to
play sports or some other winter activity with the cast
of High School Musical - based on their personality, which
snow activity would the choose? Would it be Snowboarding,
Hockey, Making a Snowman or having Hot Chocolate in the
Lodge. So I'm just gonna read you the names and you can
say which one of those four you'd think they'd want to
do.
Ryne:
Alright
Tommy:
Zac
Efron
Ryne:
Snowboarding
Tommy:
Vanessa Hudgens
Ryne:
Hot Chocolate in the Lodge
Tommy:
Ashley Tisdale
Ryne:
Hot Chocolate in the Lodge
Tommy:
Lucas Grabeel
Ryne:
Snowboarding definitely!
Tommy:
Corbin Bleu
Ryne:
Ya know he'd be kind of a mix between Hockey
and Snowboarding cause I know he wants to try Hockey,
so I'd say Hockey and Snowboarding.
Tommy:
Monique Coleman
Ryne:
Snowboarding! She's a daredevil. She'll do anything.
Tommy:
And KayCee Stroh
Ryne:
I would say Hockey cause her family has a lot
of Hockey players in her family. So I'd say Hockey.
Tommy:
Now, aside from High School Musical do you have anyprojects
in the future that we could look forward to?
Ryne:
Well, I've been reading a lot of scripts and
I've been going on quite a few auditions and coming close
to quite a few things but It's kind of tough because High
School Musical doesn't have a set date right now and I
know I want to do that so I haven't really committed to
anything yet. Right now my big focus is right now are
just school - I'm studying Architecture at the University
of Utah and that's pretty much it. Doing school and reading
scripts and just kind of taking it as it comes.
Tommy:
And for those people that want to stay up to date with
you is there any way they can keep track with you online?
Ryne:
There's... I know IMDB keeps up pretty well with
everything but I haven't actually seen, but I've heard
of a fan site that someone made for me that kinda of keep
tracks of it at FanForums.com or something that I've heard
about, so they could check that out.
Tommy:
Alright Ryne, thanks for checking in with us today.
Ryne:
Absolutely!
Tommy:
And of course I want to remind everybody they can pick
up High School Musical 2 on DVD and Blu-Ray on December
11th!
Ryne:
Mmmhhmmm.
Tommy:
We'll talk to you later.
Ryne:
Thank you so much.
