Nikki Cleary - August 2003

Here are some of the highlights from the Interview.

Tommy: We've got about a month to go before your debut cd ships, so lets go over some basics about you so everyone knows about you when your cd comes out. Starting things off, lets go over some of your favorites. How about your favorite food?

Nikki: I like pizza!

Tommy: What about favorite subject in school?

Nikki: I like science a lot.

Tommy: What about hobby?

Nikki: I like to swim. When I'm home, I like to stay home and watch movies and eat.

Tommy: What about favorite sport?

Nikki: I like to play softball.
Tommy: When your chillin' at home what's your favorite movie to watch with friends?

Nikki: I like Erin Brockovich and I love scary movies.

Tommy: What about amusement parks, do you have a favorite there?

Nikki: I don't know. I'm not a real big ride person, I guess. I went on a roller coaster for the first time last week.

Tommy: As far as singing goes, when you were younger who did you look up to for inspiration?

Nikki: I like Shania, I've always liked her.

Tommy: I couldn't help but notice in your bio, it makes a reference to a trip you took with your grandma where you actually sang Karaoke. What songs did you actually sing?

Nikki: I started with Grease songs. The first song I ever same Karaoke was "Hopelessly Devoted To You"

Tommy: Okay, lets step back in time. Its going to be you and your grandma and your at the Karaoke place. Your going to take the mic for the first time and sing "Hopelessly Devoted To You".

(She sings)

Tommy: After you sang that for the first time, your career really started to take off.

Nikki: People take lifetimes to start their career, and it only took me three years. When they say, Oh Mhy God, your fifteen and you got your start when you were twelve, I guess three years is very short.

Tommy: So was this a dream of yours or is this something that just totally happened over night?

Nikki: As I said, three years feels like overnight to some people, but it didn't really seem like it as it was going on. I guess it was a dream, because I've always wanted to perform in front of people. I've always been doing school plays and musicals. So, I guess I've always wanted to do it.

Tommy: Back when you were performing musicals, which was your favorite?

Nikki: I did "The Sound Of Music" and I was a puppet.

Tommy: Back with your current cd. You started that quite a while ago right?

Nikki: Actually, we started last year.. at the end of January.

Tommy: During the recording process, when you were in the studio. What were your favorite songs?

Nikki: I had some really cool British guys come in to do "Walking On Sunshine", they were so funny! They had these big accents so it was really fun to work with them.

Tommy: So you actually have a couple of covers on the cd?

Nikki: Yep!

Tommy: And the question most girls want to know, who's idea was it to do a duet with Chris Trousdale?

Nikki: We were deciding between Aaron Carter and Chris Trousdale. But we kind of figured Chris would be better for the part of it. So, I was like 'Okay Whatever' but he did a really good job on it and i'm glad with how it came out.

Tommy: Along with finishing up your cd, what other things have you been doing the last couple of months?

Nikki: As you said, working on my cd, finishing it up. I've been doing promotional things, i'm planning some tours and stuff. I've also been doing a lot of choreography and stuff like that.

Tommy: And you got a big show coming up on the Fourth of July.

Nikki: Yeah in Lousiville.

Tommy: Are you on of the people that enjoy being in the studio and just singing your music, or do you prefer being on stage and performing it?

Nikki: I like performing more. I like performing with a band, because it's like your up on stage with a bunch of people, its more energizing and you get to jam together.

Tommy: For your shows this summer are you going to have dancers or are you going to be out there by yourself?

Nikki: I'm going to be doing it myself. I like dancers and I like using them but sometimes it's cool to do it yourself.

Tommy: For those who will get to check you out live. About how many songs will they get to hear?

Nikki: About five or six, around there.

Tommy: Are there any shows that your specifically looking forward to?

Nikki: Were coming to my home town, so I can't wait to come here!

Tommy: Next month, I'm going to start training for the next marathon I'll be running. I was wondering if you can give me any pointers or tips for the race?

Nikki: I don't know, i'm not a very big racer. Just try your hardest. And avoid the pit stops in the middle. If you stop to go to the bathroom your going to loose the race!
