Aly & AJ - September 7, 2007
Here are some of the highlights
from the Interview.
Tommy: Greetings, how
are you guys doing today?
Aly: Good
AJ: Good, how you doin?
Tommy: Doing real good.
Now to get warmed up how about we run through this real
quick. It’s gonna be a this or that. I’ll
mention two things and you both will get to choose one.
AJ: I love this.
Aly: I love this game.
We play this game with our friends when we want to get
to know someone.
Tommy: With trends coming
around and the 80’s are real popular right now I
thought we’d base it around that. When you were
to buy an album would you buy a record or cassette?
Aly: Oh a record for
sure!
AJ: Record
Tommy: What would your
favorite accessory of choice be – a walkman or a
boombox?
Aly: Walkman
AJ: Walkman
Aly: These are gonna
be very similar I bet!
Tommy: We’ll see!
And the ultimate concert t-shirt. Would it either be Journey
or Bruce Springsteen?
AJ: Journey
Aly: Journey
Tommy: What about Teen
movies. Sixteen Candles or Breakfast Club?
AJ: Breakfast Club
Aly: Breakfast Club
Tommy: You know both
of those films were shot in Chicago?
Aly: Oh really!
AJ: Were they really?
Tommy: What about drinks?
Coca-Cola Classic or the New Coke?
AJ: Coca-Cola Classic
Aly: Coca-Cola Classic
AJ: Love the packaging!
Tommy: And video games.
Pac Man or Donkey Kong?
Aly & AJ: Pac Man
Tommy: Clothing patterns.
Checkers or Zebra Stripes?
Aly & AJ:: Checkers
AJ: Oh – we’ve
gotten every one the same!
Aly: My word!
AJ: This is awesome!
Tommy: What about those
purple pants?
AJ: Oh yeah, I love
those! Maybe Zebra and Checkers – I’ll mix
it up!
Tommy: Okay – and
the last one. Your favorite 80’s Pro Wrestler. Hulk
Hogan or Rowdy Roddy Piper?
Aly & AJ: Rowdy
Roddy Piper
AJ: Cause he played my
dad in the movie, so definitely him.
Tommy: Let’s move
on to your new album. It’s out and it’s by
the name Insomniatic. Why don’t you tell us a little
bit about it?
Aly: Well um –
we’ve been working on Insomniatic for quite
some time now. Ya know we ‘re doing a lot of writing
on and off the road last year. It’s been nice to
finally put out all of our feelings and emotions and experiences
that we’ve gone through in the last – ya know
year and a half and really kind of show the fans a side
of us I don’t think they’ve seen before. Ya
know it’s very – it’s a very personal
record and a lot of the songs are relationship based and
I feel like it definitely has a new sound to it –
I mean it’s still the Aly & AJ that you guys
know from Into The Rush but it definitely has a different
vibe, it’s evolved. Ya know I think our sound has
changed.
AJ: I agree. I think
not only have we changed vocally only because we’re
older now but I think we have changed ya know in our writing
and our style. Ya know I think we’ve experimented
more too, we’ve been able to take risks which is
really important when you’re making new music cause
you want to be able to reinvent a little bit without totally
you know straying from your other records. But I feel
like for us to make Insomniatic was a lot of fun and we
really dabbled in a lot of different arenas. I mean just
being able to play Potential Break Up Song –
and we wrote that from a beat, not from a guitar or piano.
That was kinda cool for us and something new.
Tommy: And the one thing
that you mentioned there which is different from a lot
of your peers is the fact that you actually write your
music. You guys pride yourself in that?
AJ: Yeah, thank you!
Thanks – I think you know it’s fun to write
your own music. I feel like it seems like it just comes
totally from you and I feel like it’s very genuine
and it’s like and open diary.
